A severe hail and wind storm crossed southern Dakota County and Rice County on April 13, 2026, between about 3:35 and 4:00 PM. Reports included 3.00-inch hail in Dennison, around 2.00-inch in Cannon City and roughly 1.50-inch in Faribault. Early inspections are showing significant granule loss, clear impact bruising, dented vents and gutters, and siding damage on multiple elevations. Hail of this size commonly qualifies for insurance-covered roof replacement, even when the roof looks fine from the ground.
“We had hail come through last summer, and had them come check our roof. We ended up getting a full roof replacement and new garage door. Again, work was done in a timely manner and the crew was great! I recommend them to EVERYONE I know.”

Dark spots or bruising on shingles, granules collecting in gutters or downspouts, dented gutters, vents or flashing, loose or missing shingles, water stains on ceilings or walls.
Delaying an inspection lets hidden leaks develop, raises repair costs as damage worsens, and can complicate an insurance claim through delayed reporting.
Look for visible damage, check gutters, siding and roof accessories, watch for interior water intrusion, take photos of anything you see, and schedule a professional roof inspection.

Exterior work is not anonymous. Brian, the owner, is the name that comes up again and again in the reviews homeowners leave: keeping people updated through a job and helping them work through the insurance side of a claim. Derek Gajewski comes up most often in connection with insurance claims and checking in while work is underway. The crews get named too, which does not happen by accident.
“Derek was amazing! He was both persistent and patient with our (awful) insurance company. He kept encouraging us and then was almost as happy as we were about the finished job.”Carey Erkal, homeowner review

“Derek did an awesome job. What a battle it was with my insurance. They fought with the insurance and got me what I deserved…..a new roof. Crew did a great job with the work and clean up. I need my garage sided in the near future and I will definitely be using BN again.”

“We love Brian and the crew at BN builders! They are quick, honest and do great work. Never throughout the process were we left not knowing exactly what was going on or what was going to happen. We have used them on multiple projects and referred our families who have also done multiple projects.”

Yes. Hail often damages the protective surface of shingles without immediately causing leaks. Over time that damage lets moisture penetrate the roof.
Yes. Most hail damage is not visible from the ground and requires a close inspection. Hail in the 1.5 to 3 inch range commonly causes significant damage and often qualifies for insurance-covered roof replacement.
As soon as possible. Scheduling an inspection soon after a storm ensures damage is properly identified and documented before it worsens or complicates a claim.
Most homeowner insurance policies cover hail damage if it impacts the performance of the roof. We document the damage, provide photos and meet the adjuster so the claim reflects the actual scope.
